  • Highlights: Encounter over 80 bird species, reptiles, butterflies, and the rare Ader’s duiker antelope in a lush, protected forest.

 

  • 🌅 Lighthouse Visit

  • Built: 1904

  • Experience: Climb 132 spiral steps for sweeping views of the island and Indian Ocean. Still in use today, the lighthouse serves as a vital navigation point.

 

  • 🌙 Optional Night Walk (for late-stay guests)

  • Spotlight: Giant coconut crabs—some spanning up to 1 meter—often seen climbing coconut trees.

 

  • 🐠 Snorkeling Adventure

  • Location: Chumbe’s protected coral reef

  • Experience: Swim among over 500 fish species, colorful corals, and a rich variety of marine life in one of East Africa’s most vibrant underwater ecosystems.

 

  • 🌊 Intertidal Walk (Tide-dependent)

  • Explore: Rock pools, marine creatures, and fascinating coastal features revealed during low tide.

  • Vessel: A traditional ngalawa (dugout canoe) used by local fishermen
