Nakupenda Island Beach Experience

After being picked up from your hotel, kick off your exciting day with a visit to Nakupenda Beach – which means "I love you," and you'll certainly feel the love here.

As you walk along the soft sand, feel the gentle waves lapping at your feet and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere, with friendly staff ready to cater to your every need.

Take a dip in the crystal-clear waters, soak up the sun, or snorkel through the vibrant marine life. After a refreshing swim, indulge in a delicious beachside lunch, featuring freshly grilled shrimp, squid, octopus, lobster, and langoustine, depending on the day’s catch. Recharged and ready for more, bid farewell to Nakupenda Beach and board a boat for a scenic 30-minute ride to Prison Island, also known as Changuu Island or Quarantine Island.

In 1893, the British prime minister of Zanzibar purchased the island and built a prison, though it was never used for its intended purpose. Instead, it became a quarantine station for yellow fever cases. Today, the old prison building stands in ruins but serves as a guesthouse for visitors.

The highlight of the island is the Giant Tortoise Reserve, where you can meet, pet, and even feed these ancient, peaceful creatures. Four Aldabra giant tortoises were brought here in 1919 as a gift from the Seychelles' governor, and they thrived in this environment, with many generations now calling the island home.

There's also a nursery for baby tortoises, where you can see the little ones of different ages – an unforgettable experience, especially for kids!
